Biography
It took 5 months to get an accurate diagnosis for Sydney Louise. Her symptoms didn't present themselves as typical Leukemia. Her initial symptoms back in November (2008) when her illness started was fever that wouldn't go away, swollen lymph nodes, and low blood counts. They told us she had mono. Six weeks later she had to go back in the hospital for fever, and low blood counts again. We found out she didn't have mono after all. The doctors did a bone marrow aspiration, CT scans, ultra sounds, and everything came back normal. No one seemed to know what was wrong.

They tested for every disease, infection, and virus. All negative. We were sent home saying she might have Cyclic Neutropenia. They would start weekly blood tests for that. Less than 2 weeks after being released again from the hospital Sydney had severe leg pain in her right leg. We took her to the emergency room where then again they ran tests, and did blood work with all negative results. They suggested a rhuematogist. The following week our pediatrician scheduled us our first rheumatogist visit. I will have to mention here that we have the BEST pediatrician ever. She has been there for us every step of the way. I would have to say she is our angel on earth.

The rheumatogist told us we needed to get an MIGB scan to rule out Neuroblastomia. He also said she could have Sarcoidosis, or maybe Juvenile RA. We did the MIGB Scan with a negative result. I was being to wonder if they were ever going to find out what was wrong with my precious angel.

During the time we were waiting for the MIGB scan our pediatrician referred us to St. Judes. We were waiting to hear from them when we went back to see the rheumatogist who told us he thought she had Leukemia. The following week the pediatrician got the call from St. Judes. The onocologist there said none of her records looked like Leukemia, and they didn't think they could help her.  Great news we thought. If the Doctor's at St. Judes don't think its Leukemia, it must not be right??

I had been watching my little girl slowly get sicker and sicker. It was time to get some answers. Past time. Our pediatrician referred us to Children's Hospital of Alabama. They ran tests, and redid a bone marrow aspiration. The dreadful date of March 27, 2009 we found out our little angel has pre-B ALL leukemia. The nurses and doctors at Children's are a heaven sent. They think of everything for children to feel safe, and loved, and in the least pain as possible. They are like angels on earth. I couldn't want anymore for my precious angel. Sydney Louise has also put quite an impression on every doctor and nurse she meets. She is such a joy with her beautiful sandy brown hair, blue eyes, and outgoing personality. She has all all of them wrapped around her little finger!!!!
