Kenny is a miracle baby. I lost a son 18 years ago and was told I'd never get pregnant again. Then when I was 40 years old and my husband was 55, I became pregnant. I was very happy and all went fine with the pregnancy. There were a few scares and I had to be careful, due to having diabetes, but on 9/10/09 my beautiful baby boy was born by C-section and was very healthy. He was 7.6 pounds and 21-1/2 inches long at birth.

I love him more than anything. It's challenging being a mother at my age, especially when I'm legally blind myself, but things were going fine and my sweet baby was growing and eating well. He is a happy baby. He only cried when he was sleepy or hungry. Over time he stopped sleeping at night and something didn't seem right about him. His doctor said something didn't look right about his eyes and referred us to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC and Baby Kenny was diagnosed with severe congenital cataracts and was blind.

I was born with congenital cataracts and went blind shortly after birth. Technology wasn't much then, but I had surgery and doctors were able to restore 25% of my vision. I had no idea the condition is hereditary, until Baby Kenny's blindness was diagnosed.

I hope that with today's technology, he will be able to see much better than I do and I hope he will be able to both work and get a driver's license. I have struggled through life, due to not being able to work or drive, and want my son to have a much better life than me.  He has had 4 surgeries so far, with no complications there will be
one more surgery but if there are other complications there will  be more than 5 surgeries. I hope not.
Thank you to all who have signed up to stitch for Kenneth.  Keep watching the main 2010 page for a link to the scan of the quilt after it is finished!
