Biography
Gary-Wayne turned 18 weeks before he became very sick.  I looked up symptoms of the H1N1 virus.  I read that if your child is having trouble breathing he/she should be seen immediately.  We took him to my family Dr.  She quickly examined him and said he needed a blood transfusion ASAP.  We then took him to the local ER.  They told us that they were 99.9% sure that he had Leukemia and we were being transfered to their sister hospital onto the bone marrow unit.

At this hospital they confirmed that he did indeed have Leukemia.  He also tested  positive for H1N1.  So we were in isolation.  We stayed in that hospital for 2 days when we received news that the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta was willing to accept him into their care.  Again, we were transferred.

We remained on isolation til we had been treated for the flu.  Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration confirmed diagnosis once again.  Treatment started on Oct. 12, 2009.  His secondary condition, because of the high dose of steroids, is Diabetes.  He has to inject himself with two types of insulin 4-6 times per day.  He has developed severe throat sores and sleeps most of the time.  Reality for me that my child has cancer.
